First days of teaching

November 2, 2013

Greetings,

I have OFFICIALLY completed my first week of teaching in Thailand and it went smoothly.  I am teaching Biology, General Science and Introductory Chemistry.  The students range from 7th grade to 10th grade levels.  The class sizes vary from 30 students per class to about 50 students per class.  This past week, I just did an introductory power point and some games so that the students can get to know me.  I will be teaching different levels of students every month and I am ready for the challenge.  I wrote my first lesson plan last week and also made a power point for one of my lessons, which was super simple.  The Thai teachers want me to do a lot of activities with the students because that keeps them focused on learning.  So, for my first week of teaching the subject matters, I am going to play bingo with the kids at the end of the lesson.

The Thai teachers in the science department are REALLY, REALLY nice and caring.  I do not live on campus where the other American teachers live and the Thai teachers MAKE sure that I have a ride to and from work EVERY morning and afternoon.  I also eat lunch with them everyday because I want to learn Thai and they also want to learn English.  So, at lunch we sit and talk, mostly them in Thai but they will include me in the discussion as well.

I feel like I am getting adjusted well here in Thailand and I will post more pics next week, when I take my camera to work.

Always learning,

Charmel

Great pics! I'm so hating right now. Riding elephants. Hanging out at the King's Palace. Snorkeling. You get to dive in such clear water with all that fish diversity. That's awesome. Looks like your enjoying yourself and living life to the fullest. They ain't ready for you Charmeezee!
